Otodectic ascariasis
Definition
Otodectic ascariasis is a contagius, parasitic, otic or cutaneus disease caused by the psorotid mite otodectes cynosis.

Etiology
Otodectic cyanotic is the most commons cause of otitis externa in young cats. Its incidence in dogs is less commons. The mites can also transiently affect humans.

Colitis in the cats
Definition or overview
The incidence of colitis in the cats is much lower than in the dog. The disease has a similar presentation to the dog.

Etiology
In most patients the cause is unknown. In some patients a dietary allergy has been implicated as a cause. Other known causes include infection with salmonella spp. Or candida albicans, feline infectious peritonitis and feline panleukopenia. A few cats have eosinophilic gastroenteritis.

Hookworm induced colitis
Definition or overview
Hookworms are generally thought of small intestinal parasites but they are found on occasion in large numbers in the colon where they cause colitis. Hookworm induced colitis usually is chronic and characterized by mucoid, occasionally bloody diarrhea.

Chorioretinitis
Definition
Posterior uveitis involves the choroid and cannot be clinically distinguished from retinitis. It is therefore usually described as chorioretinitis.

Etiology
Chorioretinitis in the cats is frequenly caused toxoplasmosis, Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) , cryptococcosis, Histoplasmosis and Blastomycosis. Toxoplasmosis and cryptococcosis commonly involve only the posterior segment, although anterior and posterior uveitis may occur. Chorioretinitis in dog is caused by caused by bacterial, viral and fungal infections, parasites and primary and secondary neoplasia.

Retinal Detachment
Definition
Retinal detachment (RD) occurs with separation of the neurosensory retina from the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE).

Etiology
Bilateral retinal detachment (RD) suggest a systemic problem. Optic nerve colobomas, severe retinal dysplasia, systemic hypertension due to renal or cardiac failure, intraocular neoplasia and choriorenitis may cause retinal detachment (RD).
